Clean-up of local beauty spot
Underneath the disused Wheatley railway viaduct (in North Halifax) there is a scenic and shaded stretch of the Hebble Brook, popular with local anglers. As the site is quite secluded, it has fallen victim to fly-tipping in the past and so we got some youngsters from the junior football team together to have a go at cleaning it up.
Within a couple of hours we had made a real difference to the area. Amongst other things we retrieved a couple of bins, a bed, a kiddie's bike and a supermarket trolley (which must have come quite a way to end up here!)
Calderdale Council provided the skip and a worker from the Mixenden Initiative also helped out. And, if you look closely at the picture below, you can just see the feet of some other volunteers behind the bulk of the bed frame!
