Joint action with the waterways

On a warm day in July a dozen people took part in a British Waterways clean-up event on the Halifax Arm of the Calder & Hebble Navigation, at Salterhebble Basin. The activity was supported by Calder Future staff and volunteers, and was an opportunity to remove floating debris and litter from the towpath, a blight on the canal for anglers and visitors.
We also cleared a whole section of Himalayan balsam from the towpath by the C&H Navigation, thereby stopping its spread into the waterway itself. We were blessed with good weather, and it was a high profile event enabling passers-by to see canalside volunteering in action!
We did a further clean-up of the Calder & Hebble at Brighouse in October - in partnership with local organisations and businesses. See some excellent images of the day at http://johnsteelphotography.com/corporate/?p=1050
Remember to check the events calendar where more workdays in association with British Waterways will be advertised as they are arranged.
